Congressional Democrats, led by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), are pushing for something that they assume will completely overshadow the presidential primary season and maybe the 2024 general election. Better still, from their perspective, this is something that would almost entirely obscure the investigation of the Biden family’s financial scandals. Schiff and his colleagues want the upcoming Trump trial related to the 2020 election televised. Not just that specific trial, though. Schiff wants all of them on TV.
The Continuing Jan 6 Spectacle
Since January 6, 2021, Democrats and their fellow partisans in the establishment media have been squeezing every ounce of drama and spectacle they can from the protest on Capitol Hill. Comparisons to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 have even been made. The Jan. 6 committee grandstanded for months. On that fateful day more than two years ago, tens of thousands of Trump supporters descended on the nation’s capital to protest the congressional certification of Electoral College votes from the previous November’s election. In their eyes, the results of that election had been manipulated to give Joe Biden possibly the most improbable victory in American presidential history.
In what appears to be yet another coordinated effort to deflect from the ever-growing Biden bribery and influence-peddling scandal, former President Donald Trump was recently indicted on charges related to his alleged attempt to reverse the 2020 election outcome.
Televised Trump Trial and Election Interference
With some exceptions, federal courts do not allow cameras. But if the Trump trial were to be televised, it could be the most powerful election interference operation the Democrats could ever dream up. It would perhaps far outstrip Hillary Clinton’s ploy to influence the 2016 White House race by fabricating a conspiracy between Trump and the Russians to steal that election. It would be of little benefit to Trump himself as the left-wing television media would be able to selectively edit footage from the trial to remove any exculpatory evidence and witness testimony that might be revealed.
It would also mean a massive payday for CNN, MSNBC, and the like, and left-leaning newspapers and online sites would scoop up the residual benefits of covering the Trump trial. Democrats would have once again ensured that Trump’s alleged crimes would be the main talking point among American consumers of political news. Most importantly, a televised Trump trial could very well have a significant impact on the 2024 primaries and – should Trump secure the GOP nomination – the presidential election itself. Even if the trial is long over by then, it wouldn’t stop the establishment media from reliving it endlessly.
“It is imperative the Conference ensures timely access to accurate and reliable information surrounding these cases and all of their proceedings, given the extraordinary national importance to our democratic institutions and the need for transparency,” thirty-eight House Democrats wrote in an Aug. 3 letter to the Judicial Conference, which is a policymaking body for the federal courts. The letter also said, “If the public is to fully accept the outcome, it will be vitally important for it to witness, as directly as possible, how the trials are conducted, the strength of the evidence adduced and the credibility of witnesses.”
That last excerpt suggests, by the use of the plural “trials,” that the group of Democrats want not just the 2020 election-related Trump trial to be televised, but his other upcoming trials as well. The 45th president has been slapped with two other indictments and faces a possible fourth related to his 2020 post-election conversations with Georgia election officials. Joe Biden carried Georgia, which was one of the states embroiled in electoral chaos and, to many, questionable vote tallies. Trump fiercely contested results reported from the Peach State.
Adam Schiff has yet to walk back his claims that he had seen “more than circumstantial evidence” that the 2016 Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to influence that year’s election. He has never backed up the allegation, and earlier this year he was censured by the House for repeating those unsubstantiated claims. A special counsel investigation into FBI handling of the Trump-Russia affair revealed that Clinton’s campaign had dreamed up the whole thing.
Democrats were furious with former FBI Director James Comey for speaking publicly about the investigation into Clinton’s unauthorized private email server. In the midst of the 2016 election, they claimed Comey should have kept quiet because his public statements might have damaged Clinton’s chances of getting to the White House. Yet here we are approaching another presidential election, and Democrats are chomping at the bit to publicly air out the legal tribulations of the man who is, at least for now, the chief Republican challenger to Joe Biden’s bid for re-election.
