At least one interesting development has emerged from the highly partisan political theater that is the House of Representatives’ Jan. 6 hearing. It appears that one of the Democrats’ key accusations has been exposed as a deception. This revelation, while predictable, also raises questions about other lies that might be revealed through the course of this anti-Trump production in Congress.
The Democrats’ Jan. 6 committee, which was designed to launch new attacks against former President Donald Trump and his allies, promised to get to the bottom of the events surrounding the riot at the Capitol building last year. But so far, the hearings have not yielded much that can be used to dampen the former president’s possible political aspirations. Even worse, Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger torpedoed the panel’s contention that a Republican lawmaker led a reconnaissance mission inside the building on Jan. 5.
In a letter to Congress, Manger informed the committee that his agency found “no evidence” Representative Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) engaged in any wrongdoing when he gave constituents a tour of congressional office sites that day. According to the chief, the congressman did not enter either the Capitol, or tunnels leading to the building, with the group.
Manger recounted the tour group’s activities, noting they were seen entering the Rayburn House Office Building, the basement of the Cannon House Office Building, and other locations to view exhibits and other items of interest. “At no time did the group appear in any tunnels that would have led them to the U.S. Capitol,” he wrote. “In addition, the tunnels leading to the U.S. Capitol were posted with USCP [US Capitol Police] officers and admittance to the U.S. Capitol without a Member of Congress was not permitted on January 5, 2021.”
The letter concluded:
“There is no evidence that Representative Loudermilk entered the U.S. Capitol with this group on January 5, 2021. We train our officers on being alert for people conducting surveillance or reconnaissance, and we do not consider any of the activities we observed as suspicious.”
Republicans savaged the Jan. 6 committee panel and others for spreading the lies, which will surely find their place in the pantheon of Democratic deceptions between the Fine People and Koigate hoaxes.

“All I can think of is this is a Soviet-style propaganda trial, like a show trial,” Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) said in an interview with Just the News. Referring to a heavily edited video of Trump’s Jan. 6 speech, she continued, “They put this tape together using propaganda, selected words and clauses cut and pasted to smear the people they want to smear and to get the outcome.”
Representative Austin Scott (R-GA) took to Twitter to slam the committee’s deception. “There was absolutely no basis in the Jan 6th committee’s accusations against Loudermilk- and they knew it,” he tweeted. “The January 6th committee is a sham with no shame.”
Loudermilk also posted a tweet after being vindicated: “The truth will always prevail. As I’ve said since the January 6 Committee made their baseless accusation about me to the media, I never gave a tour of the Capitol on Jan 5, 2021.”
Will Democrats in Congress and their comrades in the activist media admit they got it wrong? Or will they continue insinuating that Loudermilk and other GOP lawmakers were part of some vast conspiracy to riot at the Capitol building? What other falsehoods will come to light throughout the course of these politically motivated hearings? Perhaps this entire production might just backfire on the Democrats after all.
